Abstract

In today’s fast-paced and highly competitive business landscape, retaining skilled and motivated talent has become a vital factor in ensuring long-term organizational success. This research paper investigates the significant role that Learning and Development (L&D) plays in improving employee retention across Indian industries such as Information Technology (IT), Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), and Manufacturing. The study is based on insights gathered from 150 employees through structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews. The analysis indicates a clear and positive relationship between comprehensive L&D programs and an employee’s decision to remain with their organization. Notably, when training initiatives are closely aligned with employees’ job responsibilities and long-term career goals, retention rates improve markedly. The study also highlights that younger employee tend to prioritize development opportunities, suggesting a generational shift in workplace values. Statistical techniques, including correlation and regression analysis, confirm that employee satisfaction with L&D and their perception of career advancement opportunities strongly influence their commitment to the organization. This research adds to the current literature by offering real-world data from the Indian corporate environment, emphasizing the strategic role of L&D in effective talent retention. The paper concludes by offering actionable strategies for companies seeking to curb employee turnover by embedding continuous learning into their broader human resource management practices.
