Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of digital transformation on Jordanian media legislation, by analyzing the adequacy of current laws in regulating digital media, the legal challenges facing it, and the need for legislative reforms that keep pace with digital developments. The survey approach was adopted, as the study included a sample of legal, media, and academic experts. It used a questionnaire that measured their opinions on current legislation and its responsiveness to digital media. The results have shown that 70% of the participants believe that current media legislation is insufficient, 71% confirmed the absence of clear legislation to regulate digital content, while 65% indicated the weakness of laws in confronting misleading news. Other challenges have emerged related to protecting privacy (60%), regulating the legal liability of digital platforms (55%), and intellectual property rights (50%). Regarding reforms, 75% recommended enacting new specialized laws, 70% stressed the importance of tightening penalties for publishing misleading news, while 60% indicated the need to protect electronic publishing rights. The study concluded that Jordanian media legislation needs to be updated to ensure a balance between media freedom and the protection of digital rights. Recommended cooperation need between legislative and media bodies to establish a more flexible and effective legal framework that enhances the credibility of digital media and protects users, in keeping with the rapid developments in this field.
